About Me
My name is Jordan Olthuis, I am 23 years old and I live in Abbotsford BC. My favourite kinds of riding are Freeriding, Slopestyle and Dirt Jumping. After High School I went to school for a program called ‘Mountain Bike Operations’ at Capilano University in Sechelt BC. That was an 8 month course and I learned lots about mountain biking like guiding, teaching, about the industry, trail building etc.
I have recently finished going to school for Film Production, I am now working on becoming a successful Mountain Bike Filmmaker.
I grew up in Abbotsford BC and lived here all my life, I first started getting into mountain biking when I was about 14 from a friend of mine Andrew. He took us riding up to Ledgeview where there are lots of trails there and the first time I went I just took my BMX because thats all I had, but they lent me a 26" rigid 'mountain bike' because that would be way more appropriate. I got way more into mountain biking since then and got my first mountain bike when I was 15, it was a Norco Wolverine.
I bought my first video camera in October 2006, it was a Canon Elura 100 mini DV cam and I was quite happy with the quality it produced. But of course it was still a cheap comsumer camera and it was good enough for the next while as I started to film a whole bunch of mountain bike footage and started to make all kinds of videos.
I graduated High School in June 2007 and worked for the next year before I went to college. In September of 2008 I went to Sechelt BC for a year at capilano University because they have a 'mountain bike operations' program, one of the only kind in the world. Sechelt is on the Sunshine Coast about 15 minutes away from Roberts Creek which is where you see all the sick trails and riding that The Coastal Crew do. That program was fun because we learned all about trail building, which was the best part of the program and we made a new trail in the Sprockids park in Gibson. Another cool part of the program was the Guiding and Teaching class tought by Darren Butler. We got to learn how to teach people all sorts of beginner to intermediate skills and how to be a guide when riding trails with people. That was done in April 2009
Then that September I went to School in Vancouver for film production. It was a 12 month course and went through the summer and I finished it in September 2010.
